Hi, my name is Rachel, I fell in love with ceramics at the age of 18 while studying A Level Art and Design. That passion led me to study ceramics at university (or Polytechnic, as it was known then!) in Sunderland. Since then, I’ve continued to practise and teach ceramics back in my hometown of Leicester.
I’ve been teaching ceramics for over 30 years. My journey began with Leicestershire Adult Learning Services, where I taught five adult classes a week, alongside work in care homes, schools and a wide range of freelance projects for arts charities.
In September 2025, I founded Clay Works, creating a welcoming, creative space where everyone can enjoy and explore the world of clay. I love the energy of teaching, sharing pottery knowledge, and watching people grow in confidence as they create and connect with others. The sense of achievement on students’ faces never gets old. Whether you’re joining us for a one-off workshop or a six-week course, I’m sure you’ll love working with clay as much as I do.
Clay Works studio is 5 mins from the M1 and a short 15 min drive from Leicester city centre. The studio is light and spacious offering plenty of room to create. There are two large kilns, two professional Shimpo pottery wheels over 100 colourful glazes and a selection of 4 different types of clay. It is on the ground floor of a converted old school, so easily accessible with lots of Free parking.
Rachel was fantastic, excellent support and patient, perfect!
